Sand Blending

The sand blending ceremony in a wedding expresses the coming together of two people, or two families, into one new family – hence the use of the word “blending”. It is a remarkably simple idea that can be incredibly powerful.

Generally, each person has different coloured sand in a glass or small vessel and then each takes turns pouring it into one clear larger vessel, forming a quite spectacular layered effect.

Sometimes just the couple participates, and sometimes the couple’s children or parents join in with their coloured sand, adding to the layers of colours, and expressing the harmony of the entire family.

The celebrant will usually accompany the pouring of each colour with words that explain the significance of the colour and how it relates to the person pouring it.

There are variations of this as well!

To add a bit of fun for the kids why not make it Smarties or M&M’s!!!
